A permanent multimedia exhibition in the Novomlýnská water tower presents the history of fires in Prague, the development of firefighting technology and the significance of water towers in the life of the city. The installation combines period materials from the museum's collections with video mapping, animation and immersive audiovisuals.
Three separate audiovisual installations were created for the exhibition, distributed across the tower. On the top floor, a projection of a historical veduta of Prague serves as a timeline of major fires that shaped the city's appearance over the centuries. The second installation transports visitors into the heart of the 1881 National Theatre fire — synchronised projectors surround the viewer with images of flames and transform the tower space into an immersive scene of historical catastrophe.
The third element comprises a series of five animated characters on individual screens who, through authentic stories, bring to life the history of Prague's firefighters and the transformation of firefighting technology across different periods.
